Tarot Tuesday

This week’s question is from Marie: “I have a question regarding my job situation. I work as a “temp teacher” at a school, I love this job and I know that I am very well liked and they call me as soon as they need a temp. But it’s hard to get the hours I need every month because I just work 50%. Can you see what this spring looks like job wise for me? Do you see me continuing here or is something new on the horizon?”

Cards Drawn:  The Chariot – 4 of Swords – Reversed Queen of Cups

At this time, your best opportunities seem to arise from the school you currently work with, Marie.  The Chariot suggests stability here, even though it’s only a part-time or 50% arrangement.  The problem I see in trying to find something else is that the 4 of Swords shows us how things are currently at rest in the situation.  There is no sense of movement here that would bring on a job change over the spring.  But chances are, your best opportunity, when it does finally emerge, may be at the beginning of a new school term rather than in mid-semester or mid-year.  But I’m not seeing that desired change come up as soon as you want.

The Reversed Queen of Cups suggests that you may naturally be disappointed with the situation as it stands now, but one of the important factors is in liking the school you work with.  And while this trio of cards isn’t giving us a picture beyond the spring season as you asked about, the solidity of the Chariot’s energy suggests to me that later on, a possibility could arise with your current school.

That is, of course, subject to change, since we are looking beyond the time frame of this reading, and there are your own choices to factor into the situation.  But for now, I see things to be unmoving as you ponder your possibilities.  It looks like you will be more apt to continue with your current school than to make a change – and possibly wait it out until this present school might have a full-time teaching opportunity for you at a later time.

The Chariot offers a sense of security where you are, so as long as you can make ends meet as a “temp,” it seems that your best course may be to wait things out until something opens up with this school that you’re already happy with.  Trying to force a change in an undesired direction isn’t likely to fulfill you, as the Reversed Queen of Cups suggests.  It seems you may have to ride this out until something does change in the situation that would be to your advantage for a permanent, full-time work arrangement.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Kim: “Dear Velvet Angel, I would like to know if the tarot suggests that I will meet Mr. Right in 2012. I have been lonely for many years. I have trust issues with men. I was in an abusive marriage for over 15 yrs. Thank you for considering my question for Tarot Tuesday.”

Cards Drawn:  King of Swords – Reversed 7 of Pentacles – 7 of Wands

I have pulled the cards in a Past/Present/Future layout.  The King of Swords for the past suggests that there was not a lot of romantic emotion in your 15-year marriage.  And with this particular King, when he’s turned upside down, he can certainly display abuse (even though he’s displaying himself upright here).  You have been with someone who was quite dominating and overpowering.  Going through something like that for so many years can really leave a mark on you, and it can make you fearful about meeting new people.  But in the same token, just make sure that you don’t find yourself attracted and drawn to this same kind of personality in the future.

What I am gathering from the cards at this time, Kim, is that you need to do some important work on yourself – such as working through the past traumas and the current fears you are left with.  Living with someone like the King of Swords, when your own gentler personality is so different, can play a huge role in demeaning your own self-worth and confidence.  So I think it’s important that you work on yourself in order to truly be “relationship ready” without having to carry that baggage of the past with you into a new relationship.  That “baggage” can hold fears that might not be fully resolved for you.  You might consider utilizing some self-help techniques, or if you prefer, you might want to even talk to a counselor to ensure that you get these things worked out in a healthy way.  And also, if you’re not yet divorced from this man, that’s going to be a VERY important step to completely break free and gain closure on this difficult chapter of your life.

The Reversed 7 of Pentacles shows us that your efforts in trying to find or attract a new relationship may be a bit scattered and uncertain.  And if you are going into this with the idea that the next or the first person you meet should be “the one,” you are robbing yourself of enjoying the journey.  It’s important not to get so focused on the desired destination that you lose sight of the journey in getting to where you ultimately want to be.  Dating and meeting people can be a lot of fun – but it shouldn’t be defined on an inner level as the ultimate “search” for someone special.  That “special someone” will happen for you more naturally.  You may feel like you are hitting a brick wall at times.  But the key thing here is to make sure that you are truly free to explore a new relationship.  If you are still tied to the past (such as not yet being divorced), this can really hinder you and make you feel continually limited or trapped.  This card reversal is showing us that more work will be needed before you can put yourself in a more ideal position to meet someone special.  So you don’t want to rush into anything and end up in a similarly undesired kind of relationship experience as what you’ve already gone through.

The 7 of Wands also suggests that you will meet with some challenges in 2012 when it comes to relationships.  I am not feeling that your “Mr. Right” will be available to you in this new year.  But what I am feeling is that there is some work to be done on yourself as well as tying up some loose ends that need tended to in order that you will have the freedom to explore new possibilities for love.  Sevens relate to a time of reflection and assessment.  This Seven is letting you know that you have the ability to take control of your life and get things sorted out.  Handle what stands in your way or creates a block to finding and having a good relationship.  Once you get those things taken care of, you’ll be in a much better position to attract the right kind of relationship into your life.  But for this year, it’s probably going to be a time of really working on yourself and your external situations so that you will be freed up to find what you really want.  Be willing to confront whatever you know you need to take care of . . . as this is a way of taking care of yourself and clearing the path to put you in a place of finding a healthy relationship experience in the future.  For this year though, you need to really focus on YOU.  It’s a time of assessing more so than creating, but this evaluation will help you ultimately get what you really want, and it will help you to NOT settle for less than you want and deserve.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Teresa: “My question is about a toxic workplace. I am in the healthcare field and the area I work in has an abundance of egos and people with agendas. The workplace is divided into a couple groups, the group of people that are willing to do anything to get ahead including stabbing “friends” in the back and siding with people that will help them get what they want. There is tension, adversity and a general icky feeling there. There is another group of people that try to do the right thing and protect each other and defend the underdogs or the new people trying to orient in  the area. There is another group that has thrown in the towel keep their head down and pray that no one confronts them or tries to get them to join their group.

My question is, do you see any positive change for us, is there any hope of the toxic group losing its power, or will the unit crash and burn?”

Cards Drawn:  5 of Swords – Queen of Cups – The Sun

The 5 of Swords mirrors this extremely toxic situation in the workplace.  This is the card of bullies, toxic actions and mindsets, and even the very situations that you described with some people hanging their heads and hoping not to be asked to support a particular group, others trying to do the right thing, and some being dominating bullies who want the control.  Yet the surrounding cards also show us that this kind of behavior is not the ultimate “winning” victory for the people who are participating in this kind of toxic control.  Their victories are really only just as temporary as the Five energy of the Tarot is!  These individuals may feel like they are winning battles, Teresa, but I don’t see them winning the ultimate “war.”

The Queen of Cups in the center of this layout shows us that those who are choosing to do right and stand up in an ethical and compassionate way are the ones who will, in the end, stand to gain from a much better situation.  In the meantime, it can be a very emotional situation for all of you who are involved in trying to do right, but feeling like you’re up against a wall with those who don’t want to follow the rules.  The fact is, though, these people acting in such unethical ways (even the managers) also have superiors in higher up places who can get wind of this matter and decide to do a little investigation if they find something isn’t quite right.  Eventually the Five energy starts getting scattered.  Nothing is organized, and the truth is revealed.  And the bottom line is what this work is supposed to be all about – caring for patients through the compassion of the Queen of Cups.

The Sun is such a liberating energy!  It clears up the clouds of deception from the Five energy and sheds light on a situation.  And it holds the power to set you and others free from this difficult workplace situation.  So yes, Teresa, there is definitely hope that this toxic group will lose its power . . . and that Sun’s energy can indeed burn, too.  I have a feeling that, at least for some of them, the Sun’s energy will literally turn on these toxic individuals.  Some may find themselves out the door without a job – even the ones who have made threats and demands to other people.  They’ll find they weren’t so “big” after all.  The Sun clears things up and allows for a happier environment where you can finally breathe again!  I hope it comes soon for you, Teresa!

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Jaycie: “I will be starting a new online business within the next month or two, and I’m just wondering how this venture will work out for me overall in 2012?”

Cards Drawn:  Reversed Judgement – Reversed Devil – Temperance

Reversed Judgement indicates that you may have a rocky start in this new business venture, but don’t despair!  There will be a lot for you to learn, and you’ll undoubtedly make some mistakes along the way.  But use those mistakes and errors in judgment to help you make better choices as you keep moving forward.  Additionally, if you want to get this started in the next month or two as you indicated, make sure that you aren’t procrastinating, as you can too easily find any number of excuses to put things off.  Don’t try to cut corners in this endeavor, because ultimately, the only person who will get cheated by that approach . . . is YOU!

Realize that it’s going to take some money to make some money, but depending on the type of business you are starting, it’s not necessarily going to break the bank to get the things you need to get started with your venture.  Don’t go into this with the illusion that you will be making a healthy income within just a few months.  This is going to take some real work, time, effort, and patience on your part.  And you may more fully discover and appreciate this fact as you get further along with this business in 2012.  The Reversed Devil shows a situation of facing reality and discarding illusions so that you can make better – and more realistic – decisions about the affairs of this business venture.

Temperance brings a balance to the situation.  So after going through some ups and downs and some “trial and error” during next year, it looks like you’re going to find your footing – as long as you don’t procrastinate or let fear stop you from getting started!  Through your experience, you will learn what works for you and your business and what doesn’t work well.  So you’ll be able to avoid extremes and exercise more balance, discipline, and patience overall.  Success is not going to be instantaneous in this new business, but just know that your patience and perseverance can pay off.  By the end of 2012, you will likely to have reason to keep going and continue to build on this venture.  You’ll likely be seeing enough reward that makes you know what you can do and that the process is going to finally be worth your time and effort.  You’ll find that you will learn the “right” way of doing things in this business, which means you will make better decisions from your experience.

So give this some time, Jaycie.  I think you’re on to something positive here – but you have to be willing to ride the bumps and the storms to establish a solid foundation for this venture.  You have to be willing to learn new things, be patient, and don’t expect to be financially dazzled right away.  It will take time, but if you’re willing to put in that time and effort, things will balance out later for you in 2012.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Lisa: “My boyfriend has had a GREAT deal on his plate the last 6 weeks (give or take) and most of the issues he faces are with his teen-aged son.  The issues his son faces are things that I cannot “help” with – they are things they must handle - and in this process my boyfriend has seemingly forgotten about “us”.   He doesn’t communicate with me like he once did – although he says we are still a couple – we haven’t had much time together – do you see things calming down and my relationship getting back “on-track” in the near future? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!”

Cards Drawn:  9 Wands – Reversed 4 of Swords – Reversed Ace of Cups

While it’s not much fun for a relationship to be this “quiet” or seemingly non-productive, your boyfriend has a HUGE amount on his plate right now.  And these issues he must deal with can definitely interfere in the relationship you and he have together.  However, if you make too much of a complaint to him about it, he’s likely to become defensive about things – as shown in the Nine of Wands.

You may very well continue to feel “stuck” for awhile with this relationship and the lack of growth and productivity – even to the point of having to decide if you can wait this out for better times to come.  Unfortunately, I’m not seeing a near-future improvement.  The Reversed 4 of Swords can indicate more movement in the situation, but with the 9 of Wands here, too, you want to make sure that you aren’t moving into what feels like a “battlefield” instead of moving back toward that loving feeling that has gone astray in the midst of your boyfriend’s family problems.  Sadly, this relationship is currently “running on empty.”  Love is getting buried beneath the problems.

The Reversed Ace of Cups indicates that this emotional imbalance will not get fixed soon enough for you.  But this is all not easy for your boyfriend either.  The situation is making you feel excluded, unloved, and forgotten.  And getting back to “us” as you hope for won’t be any quick fix.  There is a need for a lot of patience to sort out your feelings before making any definite decisions, however.  Avoid saying or doing something you will later regret.  Remember, he’s not ignoring you on purpose, but right now, he’s like a soldier who is trying to hold himself and his son together.  None of this was a problem when you first met, but he’s facing a significant life crisis right now.  I don’t think he wants to also “go to war” with you as he is having to do with the problems at hand . . . but only you can decide if you can wait on him to get things worked out in his personal life . . . or not.  It’s not likely to get settled soon with the Reversed Ace of Cups appearing.  Unfortunately, the problems he’s facing may continue to impact the relationship between the two of you.

I don’t see an end in sight yet for this, but eventually even challenges do come to end – one way or the other.  This is naturally hard for you to be in a relationship and not even feel like you have one at all.  If he was purposefully avoiding you, it would be one thing . . . but I don’t feel he is trying to hurt you.  He’s defending his family situation as best he can.  And until that is settled, he is not likely to be as emotionally available for you as you need him to be.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Sylvia: “I am wondering what opportunities are out there for me for a complete change in career path as I am contemplating various options?”

Cards Drawn:  9 Wands – Knight of Cups – 7 of Wands

The dominating cards here are from the suit of Wands with the Knight of Cups in the center. The first thing this tells me is that you need to choose a career that you truly feel passionate about – not just something that you feel is good for the sole purpose of the money potentials.  If you don’t also love what you do, burn out can happen quickly.  So as you explore new career ideas, explore the type of work it is before considering the salary.

The 9 of Wands suggests that things are probably somewhat stagnant right now in the job field, yet you are in a strong position and should not give up your ideas for a career change. Because you’re feeling a need for change, this will be worth exploring.  You’re holding your own right now, but the heat of Wands energy can also burn – in other words, it can make you feel burned out as mentioned above.  One potential opportunity as suggested with the 9 of Wands is working in the way of defending, safeguarding, or protecting someone or something.  This can be like a caregiver or someone who watches over others. Something related to security or protection comes to mind with this card.

The Knight of Cups suggests branching out into a new business area or previously unexplored territory.  So it sounds like you may really be ready for a radical change in career.  This can be a major part of your growth to have a strong desire for change.  In terms of possible vocations, this Knight speaks of areas in the arts, therapy, psychology, creativity, advertising or marketing positions, or even acting.  Knights also speak of change, and that is a predominant message in the cards today.  It seems that you can find a complete change, and the cards here today are not intended to find your precise answers, but to help you get started on exploring your own personal passions.  You’ve got to be in it because you really want it, whatever  direction you ultimately choose.  The 7 of Wands can speak of positions related to law or anything that requires you to mediate, challenge, or oppose.  Whatever direction you choose, you may be faced with a lot of competition in various fields, so you will likely have to determine your strong points and present them to potential employers.  You must let your best shine!

One other thing I’m getting from the cards is that you might even, at some point (even if not right now), be considering working at home as your own boss.  Even the 7 of Wands can point to various types of self-employment ventures.  It is possible to create that kind of change, although that route can certainly take much more time as you usually need to continue working the day job until you get your own business successfully off the ground.  But that’s something to keep in mind as well.  Even if you had to build such a business while also keeping a day job, the rewards can pay off when you give it enough time.  The bottom line is to find what you truly feel passionately about. Ask yourself what you want to be when you “grow up.”  Your inner child will have some answers for you that want you to take notice.  Sometimes we just get overly logical and tied down in the “shoulds” and the “oughts” of life . . . but your career change should be about what you WANT . . . not necessarily how you “should” do this or that because it guarantees more money, even if you’re not happy with what makes you the most money.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Mary: “A year and a half ago, I met a man who I was very attracted and drawn to.  Because of distance we only got together four times.  We visited recently and agreed to get together and stay in touch.  After emailing a few times, this man stopped communicating without an explanation.  I guess one would conclude that he met someone else who was closer and easier.  It was upsetting because he told me I was special.  I will not contact him.  Will this man come back into my life at some point in the future?”

Cards Drawn:  Page of Wands – 5 of Wands – Page of Cups

The Page energy of this reading is predominant, and when it comes to relationships, it can feel like a sweet and even a passionately-growing sensation with Wands/Cups combined.  This man was definitely interested and attracted to you, but he isn’t the committing type at this time in his life, for whatever reasons.  A spark was there, but he didn’t give it a chance to grow.  In fact, his energy seems rather restless instead of being able to stay put and get serious about a relationship.

This is further revealed to us in the 5 of Wands energy.  The advice here is that getting involved with him can ultimately feel like a conflict instead of anything moving toward love – despite that the lovely Page of Cups shows up here, too!  Essentially, this separation in communication and contact is likely sparing you from a future heartache.

The Page of Cups indicates that you may hear from him again – it may completely take you by surprise upon finally hearing from him after a long time has passed.  But be careful in what you are willing to do in matters of the heart.  The Page of Cups energy, as sweet as it can be, is also not mature enough to handle relationships. And I don’t think this man is “relationship ready.”  So when he gets lonely, he may very well take you by surprise and contact you again.  But the question you should ask yourself is whether you’ll be taken by surprise in that way – or whether you’ll surprise him with less enthusiasm than he will anticipate.

And just in looking at the cards themselves, Mary, notice how both pages are looking toward the “conflict” in the middle.  Be careful about potentially setting yourself up for conflict or upset with this man.  Internally, I’m sure you are feeling very conflicted over this.  It can hurt to feel abandoned in this way.  But for someone to just drop you without any notice . . . well, that tells you a lot!  That restless, conflicting energy is very much at the heart of things in relation to this man.

This week’s question is from Sara: “My question is about my marriage. I am wondering if the issues between us will get resolved or we are going to reconcile and move to Jordan next year? I have two boys and no job so divorce is not an option here. Looking for a job though. I know that he has been cheating on me. But I’ll do anything to keep my marriage intact. Please help!!”

Cards Drawn:  10 of Cups – 5 of Swords – Knight of Cups

It seems that you really love this man, despite his cheating.  The 10 of Cups is about love and family.  I can see that you want to hold this family together and somehow find that rainbow of happiness for the marriage and for the family as a whole.  With the predominance of Cups energy, I think the love still exists in this relationship on a mutual level.  I think things did once feel as happy as this card portrays through the 10 of Cups.  I don’t see this man wanting a divorce from you, and even though you may think you are staying only because of having no job, it appears that you love this man so much that even if you had the means to leave and support your children, you might not make that choice because of your love for this man.  I do think your husband loves you as well, but if he has strayed in the relationship, the 5 of Swords indicates that he may do so again.  There is a lot of unfairness to you in this situation.

I do see that you and he can resolve the issues, as shown to us by the Knight of Cups that is a forward moving energy in the realms of love and relationships.  But to get to this better place, the 5 of Swords is a conflict that you have to first deal with.  Swords are the suit of conflict in the Tarot, but they also refer to communication, ideas, and the intellect.  Even though your husband might not want to listen, it seems that you and he really need to have a heart-to-heart talk to work this out.  Nothing will change on its own.  Some intervention via real communication is necessary if you want faithfulness and more emotional stability in the marriage.  If you keep looking the other way, you and he may still stay together, but you won’t be nearly as happy as you could be if it was a monogamous relationship that makes you feel loved, cherished, and respected.

To say that this heart-to-heart talk can be uncomfortable is probably an understatement.  But if he’s willing to be faithful, and if you are genuinely willing to forgive him . . . then this marriage can be reconciled, especially since I feel that love is coming from both sides of the marriage, and not just from your side alone.

The Knight of Cups suggests resolution of matters in this relationship dilemma.  But you will have to conquer the 5 of Swords challenge in order to take that step to a better situation.  Your husband might not want to listen initially, or he might even get angry, but it’s still important to try to connect with him to work this out.  Otherwise, you both can keep looking the other way as long as you want without true resolution.  The best way to approach the resolution is with love – not with blaming and harsh words . . . but with love and forgiveness.  Forgiveness doesn’t mean that his cheating is okay, but it means that you care enough about him, the relationship, and your family to work it out.  He has to be willing to do the same, and if he can get to that point, you and your husband could actually find the love connection once again that was obviously there at one point in time.  It’s going to take some work, but because you both still love each other, this can be worked out with two hearts that are willing to reconnect and communicate once again.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Sowilo: “I am currently working full time, and getting a little burnt out there.  I would like to make a career change, but still trying to decide on ”what.”  Time is obviously of the essence for me! Need to make a decision very soon, or not make a decision at all and just suck it up where I am. LOL> What career change/move can you see for me? (if any)

Cards Drawn:  3 of Pentacles – Knight of Wands – Knight of Pentacles

Two Knights have come up, Sowilo, and this is definitely a sign of favorable change!  This strong Knight energy suggests that something will be coming in and going out of your life in terms of the work situation you are asking about.   As we look at the Knight of Wands in the center of this layout, the Knight faces the Three of Pentacles.  He’s asking you to explore your experiences that you feel passionately about in order to decide on a career change that will be right for you.  There is something you know a lot about and love, and that’s going to be an important key to shed light on your current confusion and uncertainty.

The Three of Pentacles indicates that by engaging in the kind of work you really love – something that will allow you to perhaps express your creative side while working with others – would be a good fit for you.  In this Three of Pentacles, we have a group of people who seem to be working on the construction and aesthetics of a new building.  Watch for new businesses that might come into your area . . . or even consider if you have the passion and enthusiasm to create a business of your own!  That can be a very rewarding option to take what you really love to do and turn it into an income!  But of course, the process doesn’t happen overnight.  However, since you are already feeling like you may have to just stay “stuck” in your current job, it’s worth considering what you could create for yourself and call your own over time.

The Knight of Wands expresses that urgency within you which is making you feel that you need to “hurry up and decide” on a new option, or simply stay stuck where you are already burning out on a job.  But the Knight of Pentacles assures you that you don’t have to rush into any decision. It doesn’t feel as though time is as urgent as you may believe it to be.  And this Knight of Pentacles points himself in a new direction.  He’s taken the time to pause and carefully evaluate his options before proceeding. And it’s a direction in which money can be earned.

So what this tells me, Sowilo, is that there is a change you can create in your work life.  But be patient with yourself and the process so that you can really evaluate where your passion exists and how you can use those passions, experiences, and talents in a job that you really want.  You need to be doing something you love, even if the bigger money isn’t there immediately.  The Knight of Pentacles assures you that your choice of work will have the potential to grow and become more lucrative with time.  So for now . . . it’s a matter of exploring your experiences, talents, and passions.  And look in the direction where you can utilize those assets that you already hold right now!  Change is definitely in the air, and you’re the one who can make it happen :)

Many Blessings!

This week’s question is from Kim: “I’ve been with someone for a few years now. What do you see in this relationship?”

Cards Drawn:  Page of Pentacles – The Tower – 2 of Wands

For this reading, I have used a Past/Present/Future layout for the cards.  The Page of Pentacles shows us where this relationship is coming from.  And with this card, things are rather slow-moving, yet stable.  You and this person have taken your time in the relationship, which helps to build stronger foundations than rushing through the journey of a relationship like a lot of people are inclined to do.

This slow-moving energy brings us to the present.  And while Tower energy is often that dreaded card that no one wants to see, it’s not always indicative of external crisis.  Unless you and your partner are currently dealing with a serious matter that is threatening the future of the relationship, this Tower energy likely has a lot more to do with what is going on in your mind right now.  Because of the slow-moving nature of this relationship, you may subconsciously be feeling that since things are not seeming to move on to some “next step,” that maybe things are instead falling apart.  Yet this time can be a very illuminating one as well.  It may be a matter of giving life to negative forces that are only perceived rather than actually being present in the situation. But our minds can do that to us sometimes!

The 2 of Wands suggests staying together.  But even in the future, there is not a fast-paced feeling for this relationship. Yet this energy holds a lot of potential for future possibilities.  The future may bring a time of evaluating individual goals and seeing whether you and your partner are on the same page with things at the same time.  So at some point, you and your partner are likely to discuss what you both want for the future and where you want things to go.  Despite the slow-moving energy of this relationship that doesn’t move things quickly, there still seems to be a special “glue” or bond in this relationship that you both can appreciate.  This bond holds things together even when times feel bumpy or uncertain.

So it may be awhile before anything really moves on to the “next step” in this relationship, but the 2 of Wands also reminds you of how magnificent the journey can be when working with your partner.  Nothing needs to be rushed, but enjoy this journey.  There is potential for more to come, but you may have to wait for that before you see anything developing into something more solid or something that moves things into a new step for the relationship.

Many Blessings!
