This week’s question is from Sylvia: “I am wondering what opportunities are out there for me for a complete change in career path as I am contemplating various options?”

Cards Drawn:  9 Wands – Knight of Cups – 7 of Wands

The dominating cards here are from the suit of Wands with the Knight of Cups in the center. The first thing this tells me is that you need to choose a career that you truly feel passionate about – not just something that you feel is good for the sole purpose of the money potentials.  If you don’t also love what you do, burn out can happen quickly.  So as you explore new career ideas, explore the type of work it is before considering the salary.

The 9 of Wands suggests that things are probably somewhat stagnant right now in the job field, yet you are in a strong position and should not give up your ideas for a career change. Because you’re feeling a need for change, this will be worth exploring.  You’re holding your own right now, but the heat of Wands energy can also burn – in other words, it can make you feel burned out as mentioned above.  One potential opportunity as suggested with the 9 of Wands is working in the way of defending, safeguarding, or protecting someone or something.  This can be like a caregiver or someone who watches over others. Something related to security or protection comes to mind with this card.

The Knight of Cups suggests branching out into a new business area or previously unexplored territory.  So it sounds like you may really be ready for a radical change in career.  This can be a major part of your growth to have a strong desire for change.  In terms of possible vocations, this Knight speaks of areas in the arts, therapy, psychology, creativity, advertising or marketing positions, or even acting.  Knights also speak of change, and that is a predominant message in the cards today.  It seems that you can find a complete change, and the cards here today are not intended to find your precise answers, but to help you get started on exploring your own personal passions.  You’ve got to be in it because you really want it, whatever  direction you ultimately choose.  The 7 of Wands can speak of positions related to law or anything that requires you to mediate, challenge, or oppose.  Whatever direction you choose, you may be faced with a lot of competition in various fields, so you will likely have to determine your strong points and present them to potential employers.  You must let your best shine!

One other thing I’m getting from the cards is that you might even, at some point (even if not right now), be considering working at home as your own boss.  Even the 7 of Wands can point to various types of self-employment ventures.  It is possible to create that kind of change, although that route can certainly take much more time as you usually need to continue working the day job until you get your own business successfully off the ground.  But that’s something to keep in mind as well.  Even if you had to build such a business while also keeping a day job, the rewards can pay off when you give it enough time.  The bottom line is to find what you truly feel passionately about. Ask yourself what you want to be when you “grow up.”  Your inner child will have some answers for you that want you to take notice.  Sometimes we just get overly logical and tied down in the “shoulds” and the “oughts” of life . . . but your career change should be about what you WANT . . . not necessarily how you “should” do this or that because it guarantees more money, even if you’re not happy with what makes you the most money.

Best Wishes and Many Blessings!
