The Mystic Dreamer Tarot is a deck that I purchased in December 2009 – just over a year ago from the time of this writing. It tends to take me awhile to find the time to really delve into a new deck and explore on a level that goes beyond just the surface. This was also a deck that I had quite a debate with myself about buying. But after seeing how many others were enjoying the Mystic Dreamer Tarot, I decided to purchase it. And I’m glad that I did – even though I wish I would have explored it sooner. But nevertheless, here we are now to interview the lovely and mystical Mystic Dreamer Tarot.
You can do this sort of interview with your own decks, and it can be especially insightful for a brand new deck that you’ve not used yet. Or you can interview a deck that you’ve been using to get to know that deck more intimately – to bring it closer to you on a level that is personal to you and the deck. When you do a Tarot deck interview, the responses of the cards may speak to you differently than they do for myself or others. This is because of the personal connection that you can make with a deck on a unique and individual basis – or that you can potentially make with a particular deck.
I am using a “story” approach to tell the tale of the Mystic Tarot Deck in this interview. It tends to make things more fun and entertaining for all. You can ask any questions you want for your deck interviews. I generally ask the basics, but sometimes I switch things up a bit and won’t necessarily ask all the same questions for each interview that I do.

What a long day it’s been, but tomorrow should be exciting, as the Mystic Dreamer Tarot agreed to do an interview with me! I can hardly wait. But for now, I must get some sleep so I’ll be alert for this important Tarot Deck Interview. Soon, I’m cozy and fast asleep, snug as a bug in a rug – as the saying goes. Before I know it, I’ve awakened to a peaceful, light misty fog surrounding me – although it is a bit startling, too. “Is it morning already?” I wonder to myself as I rub my eyes, stretch, and yawn. Wait a minute? Where am I? “OMG, am I dead!?” I asked aloud in wonderment, surprise, worry, and confusion all rolled into one emotion of the moment.
Just as my alarm was getting the best of me, a woman approached and said, “It’s okay. Just relax! I’m the 4 of Swords and will be representing the Mystic Dreamer Tarot for our interview today. You did remember our interview, didn’t you, Velvet?” “Oh, but of course,” I replied. “However, I thought you were coming to my home . . . and it seems I’ve come to yours instead? I guess I’m a bit disoriented at the moment.” “I must be dreaming, and it’s not really tomorrow yet,” I decided.
“Oh, but tomorrow is already here, Velvet,” the kind lady said as she lead me to a pair of comfortable chairs. “I’m so excited to represent the Mystic Tarot deck for this interview. As the Four of Swords, you know, it’s not often I get to take action on this sort of opportunity. I brought you here, and you are safe. I wanted you to see our world with your own eyes and through your own experience. But please relax and get comfortable. As you know, I’m not one who gets overly excited or worried about things. I am the Four of Swords after all. Let’s just put our fears to rest and enjoy getting acquainted, shall we?” “Of course, Miss Four of Swords.” After a brief pause, I asked, “What should I call you?”
“Miss Four of Swords is just fine with me, Velvet. Let’s sit down here and chat. What would you like to ask me?” While I had a number of questions I wanted to ask – foremost the questions of what was happening and how did I arrive in this odd but magical place that seemed too real to merely be a dream – I could see that Miss Four of Swords was ready to begin the interview. So I collected my wits and masked the confusion with the intention to be as professional as I could under these strangely enticing circumstances. I sat down with Miss Four of Swords to begin our interview.
Velvet Angel: Tell me about yourself. What are your characteristics?
Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (King of Pentacles)
I speak on behalf of the entire Mystic Dreamer Tarot. We are reliable, loyal, and committed. People trust us, because we have earned their trust and respect . . . along with a good reputation, I might add. We tend to be practical, grounded, and supportive. We encourage dedication in others, and we show others through example how to gain access to their empire of choice. What people want in life will vary from person to person. But when people seek stability in their lives, we are there to show the way.
We’re a very patient deck, and we have met with success and popularity in our career as a Tarot deck. We are considered wise, generous, and resourceful. While we can assist others in establishing strong financial foundations and good money management, we are not materialistic in nature, nor do we promote that.
We are trustworthy. People who have explored with us find that they can trust the words of wisdom and advice that we share so generously. We believe in providing reliable guidance for others, and we like to keep things practical. Having said that, most people associate “practical” with “boring,” and I can assure you that we’re anything but boring. Would you agree with that statement so far, Velvet?
As I looked around at the strange, but calm surroundings, I certainly couldn’t disagree. I replied, “Yes, Miss Four of Swords. I certainly don’t find anything boring about this experience – strange or different in a mysterious sort of way perhaps, but far from being boring!”
We promote responsible leadership in others, and cutting corners is never a part of what we teach! It’s honesty, efficiency, and practicality that will get one further in life on the road of success. We are known for having a strong character, and some say that our word is as good as gold. At least, it’s certainly as valuable.
Perhaps those who prefer to associate the concept of being practical, boring, or dull are the ones who cannot see our preference for old ways of thinking and acting. We like to adhere to tradition and what has proven to work. This is not to say that we won’t encourage one to learn new things, because certainly we will indeed. But we also like the tried and proven approaches that have continued to work in the world of Tarot. It’s much like a reader who has her own preferred method of reading the cards. Her method works for her, and while she’s open to learning new things, she won’t discard the value of “old school” traditions that have served her very well. This is how we are as a deck.
Oh, and Velvet, in case you were worried that we, the cards, might be upset with you for leaving us on a shelf in our box for a year . . . I wanted to assure you that the Mystic Dreamer Tarot isn’t one that easily gets angry. We are quite patient and forgiving, and we knew you would eventually get around to exploring with us.
(At that point, I was hoping it was merely an innocent comment – and not a jab at my neglectful ways. I merely nodded and said a simple “Thanks” to Miss Four of Swords.)
Velvet Angel: What are your strengths?

Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (Six of Cups)
I absolutely love to talk about our most special strength, so I’m glad that you asked, Velvet. As a Tarot deck, we have to have a lot in the way of strong qualities, but perhaps my favorite of our strengths is in how we can take a walk with a seeker down memory lane. It’s amazing what one can learn by revisiting the past. There may be previous lessons not yet acknowledged . . . and sometimes a much needed answers can be found there as well. We help seekers remember what they need to recall. Sometimes this revisit to the past also helps a seeker find long overdue closure on an issue as well.
We love to share our wisdom with others. Caring, sharing, compassion, and love are at the heart of our existence. But it all does begin with self-love, too . . . the prerequisite to one being able to love and share with others. We might go about our work in a way that is different than others, but we do value unique individuality in people.
As we help each seeker to explore the past and come to terms with the present, individuals are also connected to their intuitive capabilities through emotional exploration. If you look around you and look to the cards, you can enjoy a dreamy kind of feeling that opens one to the path of deeper exploration that can be based on dreams, memories, or the intuition. It’s actually a very comfortable feeling – nothing creepy there at all. We help our seekers find answers for the present and future by reflecting upon the past.
Velvet Angel: What are your limitations as a Tarot deck?
Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (Seven of Cups)
The dreamy nature of our existence can contain aspects of fantasy and wishful thinking that tend to make a person hold on to pie-in-the sky dreams. If one discovers their options, they may find it hard to choose, or they may think that just because we show them alternatives that can actually be favorable, they think they don’t have to lift a finger to make any of it happen. They just keep dreaming. And when that happens, we are saddened, because we question whether we did our job or not. But then we also realize that choice belongs to each individual. And it’s what one chooses do with their options and opportunities that creates the end result. The part we play is in presenting options, but it’s up to each seeker to choose for themselves – AND do the work that is necessary to create the most desirable outcome. We can’t do that part for anyone, but sadly some seekers sit back and let life happen to them instead of directing their lives and their choices appropriately. We show you the dreams and the possibilities, but at some point, one must come out of the dream state and return to reality in order to manifest what they want.
For the overly dreamy and impractical souls, our words may fall on deaf ears. We also prefer that people clearly define their questions to us. If people simply ask, “How is my love life doing,” all of us cards look at each other and then ask silently, “You mean, you don’t know? You have no clue how your love life is doing?” Rhetorical questions can give rise to rhetorical answers. We certainly want everyone to have fun with a Tarot reading, but when we’re the deck of choice, we do want people to ask serious questions that they really want answers to. We want folks to get clear on what they want to know, so that the answers we supply will also be clear. It’s not our desire to reinforce a sense of wandering in someone who is already confused or scattered. But we can bring up some hard choices for one to make. Not everyone is willing to face that.
Daydreams, fantasies, and imagination are the raw materials to create something of value, but eventually that “moment of truth” arrives, and one has to create something real from their visions. Although dreaming is fun to indulge in and can be an aspiration for action, at some point it is necessary for a seeker to abandon their “castles in the sky” and actually being to build those castle in real life. It all begins with a choice, and we cannot make choices for anyone, nor can we take the necessary action to manifest one’s most desired dream.
Velvet Angel: What is the quality you hold that drew me to you?
Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (2 of Wands)
Partnership, planning, and exploration are the goals that precede the action. That is why you also had to think a bit before bringing us into your world – something that we, as the Mystic Tarot, can truly respect in you and others. We welcomed you, and you could feel this. Our mystical qualities drew you in like an invitation you finally couldn’t refuse. You felt the desire to connect and be on a team, or at least to allow us to be a part of your team. Your ability to make good choices before taking an action was a prominent quality in the process of us uniting. And you were always the one who maintained the control in the situation. You could have declined our invitation, but you also felt you would be turning down a valuable opportunity. We spoke to your feelings of curiosity while you weighed your options. We knew there were hundreds of other decks you could have chosen instead. So we waited while you considered us. And in the meantime, we weighed upon your mind as you took your time to think about this offer.
Ultimately, the partnership came into being. You allowed it to happen, and we are indeed grateful and foresee many years of positive collaboration between us. We saw things and allowed you to see through comparison of other people’s opinions of us. But ultimately, you came to your own conclusions as you weighed the options before you. You made your own choice – something we can truly respect.
Velvet Angel: What do you bring to the table — what are you here to teach me?
Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (8 of Pentacles)
We know you are no rookie when it comes to the Tarot. But one is never too young or too old to learn something new and add to their repertoire of skills. We hope to teach you something new in our association, but as mentioned earlier, we can be rather “old school” in our methods, just as you can be at times, too. But the beauty of your experience lies in the fact that you love to learn new things. You love to work with new things . . . and our association only stands to become stronger through time. We are here to help you create results that are pleasing. Professional accomplishment is always the goal that you strive for, and we can certainly help you in that worthy goal.
We can be like a “mentor” if you will. We can teach you a few new tricks as you explore with us. We can show you things that you might have overlooked from other decks. Something new tends to turn up when you use a new and different deck. While we won’t stray significantly from traditions that work, we’ll let you stretch just enough so that you can study and learn with us. Mastery is a big goal, but we do bring those potentials to the table. But we also want to emphasize that even mastery is not without opportunities to learn something new. The greatest masters of history could still learn things of value and apply those skills for the betterment of themselves and others. And those are the lessons and experiences we offer you as well.
We are here to teach you to pay attention to certain details that you might normally miss or overlook. That is easy to do when things start becoming routine and feel very natural to you. But we will serve as your reminder to always go the extra mile and make what is already good into something even more magnificent. Tarot education never stops. As you know, it’s a lifelong journey . . . but one that can be incredibly fulfilling, too! With the Tarot, you get permission to be that “perpetual student.” We are here to help you challenge yourself to improve upon something you already know how to do well. We are here to help you enhance what you have created in your life so far and to always encourage you to be both student and teacher in life . . . and with the Tarot.
Velvet Angel: How can we best work together?
Mystic Dreamer Tarot: (Ace of Pentacles)
Sometimes the most practical approach in a journey is to step back to a beginner’s mind – which works quite nicely in the world of Tarot, I might add. Walk down this path of new beginnings with us and explore the gates beyond. A new richness awaits both of us in working together. We are always in support of you and your accomplishments.
The abundance of the good things in life – and in success – is out there to explore. Think of us as your practical companion and guide. And look to us as a safe haven, offering you a safe and comfortable environment in which to explore.
Be willing to always grow, for one never stops finding opportunities in life to continually learn and grow! This is the basis of our foundation for continual development. Something new exists between us that wasn’t there before . . . and this “seed” holds the potential for all the things that can eventually come into being.
Enter the world of dreams with us, and feel free to daydream . . . but also, don’t forget to come back into reality and practically apply what you have learned from those dreams.
Velvet Angel: I noticed that you have not brought out any cards from the major arcana during this interview. Can you comment on that?
Absolutely! Some Tarot decks, like us, have adopted the belief and practice that revolves around the daily events of life leading up to the bigger, major life events. Big things usually don’t “just happen.” Various things from day-to-day life create those larger events. But in our work together, we will certainly have reasons to show you and/or your clients major arcana cards to explore the bigger things that are being created, built, or that are growing. For now, we offer you the picture of the smaller daily events to give you a glimpse of who we are and how we can work together. The bigger themes await you when you choose to work with us. We cannot pour out all of our secrets at once . . . but those secrets will be revealed in the right time.

“Miss Four of Swords, I thank you so sincerely for answering these questions for me. Your responses have been extremely enlightening for me, and I really feel that I know you quite well now.” After a pause, I finally got brave enough to ask “Where exactly are we, may I ask?”
She replied, “Why, you’re in the land of Mystic Dreams, of course!”
“Oh . . . yes. Yes, of course,” I responded with some surprise and perhaps a bit of doubt in my tone.
I opened my eyes with a yawn and a stretch . . . and recalled the most vivid dream I had ever had. I dreamed of interviewing in a dreamy, mystical place with the Four of Swords – the Land of Mystic Dreams, I recalled. Wow, I guess my imagination must be running wild lately, I thought to myself. It’s probably time to think about taking that vacation I keep putting off. That interview is this afternoon, and I should call and confirm our appointment.
In looking over to the phone, I saw that I had a message. How odd, I thought. I must not have heard the phone ring. I walked over and pressed the message play button and heard . . . “Velvet, this is Miss Four of Swords, and I wanted to call and personally thank you for sharing your time for the lovely interview. I hope you learned a lot about us, as the Mystic Dreamer Tarot that we are. Thank you, Velvet! Have a glorious and mystic dream-filled day, and may your special dreams come true for you!”
At that moment, I decided I definitely needed a loooooong vacation
Yep, that dream is definitely in the cards for me!
Happy Tarot Journeys!
Velvet Angel
